Meet Janie Hearden, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Resident

It’s courageous to embark on a journey of self-discovery, self-compassion, and transformation through therapy. It can be scary to admit that we need support to navigate life’s challenges as it requires vulnerability and stepping outside of our comfort zones. The stigma society places on mental health can add to these difficulties, which speaks to the bravery of seeking help. Therapy offers individuals a safe space to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I want each client to gain an increase in self-awareness and insight.

As a counselor, I lead with empathy, warmth, and collaboration. I create a trusting environment where we can work together to process experiences and engage in self-reflection. My goal is to provide a safe space for individuals to explore themselves authentically and receive validation and support. I want each client to gain an increase in self-awareness and insight through the counseling process. If this sounds like a good fit for you, I would be dedicated to working with you on your healing journey. I work with individuals via telehealth throughout New York State.

Fun Fact: I love to travel and have been to over 10 countries!

Janie’s approach to working with clients and philosophy on therapy:
I take a person centered and holistic trauma informed approach when working with clients. I believe there is inherent worth and potential for growth in each individual. The person-centered approach prioritizes client autonomy and the therapeutic alliance, so clients feel empowered to process their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. As a client-centered counselor, I aim to acquire a deep understanding of each of my client’s beliefs and world views. My holistic trauma-informed approach emphasizes the mind-body connection as past traumas can manifest in physical and emotional ways. I want to honor the complexity of trauma responses by providing comprehensive support that addresses the various ways trauma can affect different aspects of a person’s life. By addressing both the mental and physical aspects of trauma, I aim to help clients achieve a sense of balance and well-being. My goal is to equip clients with mindfulness tools unique to them and their needs.

Professional Education:
Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling: Wake Forest University
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: University of Richmond

Clinical Experience:
Janie is currently fulfilling her graduate level internship experience working with Sprouting Roots Counseling. She works with a wide range of clients in age, presenting problems, etc. to develop a firm foundation in counseling. Janie is directly supervised by practice owner & LMHC Sadie Miller-Daley, where she receives ongoing training and supervision.

Insurance:
As a practice we are in network with Cigna and Aetna health insurances. Janie is unable to accept health insurance as a mental health counseling resident. We try to work with individuals who need therapy but cannot afford a full session fee. Typically, health insurance does not reimburse for mental health counseling residents if you have out of network coverage, but this is something that we can explore.

The cost is $55 per session (for Tennessee residents) and $65 per session (for New York residents).
